Our coffee farm is located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, near the Barva volcano, and sits at an altitude of 1250 meters above sea level. The composition of the farm was designed to imitate that of a natural biological ecosystem.
Our coffee crops grow slowly, under the shade of a variety of fruit trees such as orange, pitanga, lemon, guayaba, and cass. These trees bear sweet fruits that attract an abundance of birds which provide a natural fertilizer rich in elements beneficial to the soil. The shade-giving leaves eventually fall off and create a moisture level that forms a perfect environment and a natural bed of nutrients for the contentment and growth of our coffee—Mother Nature delivering the perfect cocktail of rain and sun. We rotate our crops to maximize the soil's potential and do not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The farm is also home to many species of birds and butterflies.
Our goal is to encourage our fellow human beings to learn from Mother Nature, to let her shower us with her gifts—to surrender to her, allowing her to have her own way in harmony and peace with the natural surroundings. She is much wiser than we are.
All steps in the processing of our coffee berries are done by hand, with no machinery involved. Indigenous people of the Bribri live and work on the farm with a deep respect and appreciation of their natural surroundings. The workers pick only the ripe berries; they are slow and patient and they know every plant by heart. The one thing they do not know is greed.
You will taste all of that and more in your cup of coffee, carefully grown in balance with the environment.
